DC Sustainable Transportation (DCST) works to make DC a global leader with frequent, rapid, safe, affordable, and reliable transportation to, from, and around DC job centers. DCST brings together business, advocacy, and government entities around shared priorities for DC transportation.
DCST believes in providing all residents and workers with options to travel by transit, walking, and biking; to mitigate congestion and better manage curb space; and to prepare for mobility changes in the future with advancing technology.

DCST is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization incorporated in the District of Columbia.
History
In 2004, when the District of Columbia first launched the DC Circulator bus, DC Surface Transit was created as a partnership between the Downtown, Georgetown, and Golden Triangle Business Improvement Districts, the Washington Convention and Tourism Corporation (WCTC), the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), and the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) to help advise, promote, and market the Circulator.
Managed by the Downtown BID, DCST assisted with the Circulator’s development and led planning efforts around its expansion. DCST grew to encompass more BIDs and other business organizations.
In 2016-7, the DCST board decided to broaden the organization’s scope to more than just transit and more tranist than just the Circulator. The organization changed its name to DC Sustainable Transportation and contracted with Greater Greater Washington to increase its programmatic activities. As of spring 2024, management of DCST transitioned to the DCST board.
